THE STOREFRONT PROJECT.

At AeA we have used our own storefront office space as a laboratory to test several ideas centered around how art and graphics can animate public space.

Storefront Graphics

ART IN THE PUBLIC REALM.

A changing canvas of bold super-graphics enlivens the streetscape, engages the community, and activates the square. The storefront is the background for a mural that is changed out often to avoid visual fatigue (when people stop noticing it, it no longer makes an impact).

BRANDING + IDENTITY.

Through the changing facade graphics the business is able to stand out and connect with the local community.

FRINGE BENEFITS.

This research project was initially outward focused, intent on addressing the negative impact of vacant storefronts on the fabric of the neighborhood and community. We quickly discovered that there was a positive impact on interior occupied space as well, not only from the graphics on the glass, but also through the play of light and shadows throughout the space.
